Glossary

Deionized water (Aqua):

is water that has had all its ions or minerals removed such as sodium, calcium, magnesium, iron, etc. For that reason, it is also known as demineralized water. Due to its ultra pure nature, it is often used in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, it maximizes the shelf life of formulas and minimizes contamination which could have a negative effect in the finished product. Water is primarily used in practically all cosmetics and personal care products to dissolve many of the ingredients that impart skin benefits known as actives.

Butyrospermumparkii (Shea) butter*:

an effective emollient and skin smoother that has natural antioxidant properties as well as a small quantity of allantoin which is renowned for its skin protectant qualities.

Cetyl alcohol‡:

a long-chain fatty alcohol derived from non-GMO coconuts, this multitasking ingredient works as a carrier, emulsifying, thickening and surfactant in cosmetic and personal care formulas. It has excellent emollient properties that softens the skin and is permitted in organic cosmetics by organic certification agencies.

Nigella sativa (Black cumin) oil*:

chock-full of vitamins A, B, C and minerals like magnesium and zinc. It balances sebum production and cleanses clogged pores. Black cumin´s essential fatty acids (EFA) help support the barrier function of the skin and prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL). It is also known for its antimicrobial and disinfectant properties.

Glycerin*:

from non-GMO karanja nut oil, glycerin is one of the oldest and most respected skin moisturizers proven in many trials (both clinical and instrumental) to increase the moisture content of the skin, protecting it from becoming dry and scaly.

Glyceryl stearate‡:

made from non-GMO vegetable sources functions as an emulsifier in creams and lotions with skin softening properties. Permitted in cosmetics and personal care products by organic certification agencies.

Diatomaceous earth:

a naturally-formed sedimentary mineral rock made from fossilized oceanic unicellular algae. This health-enhancing mineral consists of about 80%-90% silica, 2%-4% alumina and 0.5%-2% iron dioxide. Silica is considered a beauty mineral that builds and maintains healthy connective tissue, skin, hair and nails. It acts as an exfoliant that effectively removes dead skin cells from the skin’s surface and purifies the complexion.

Camelina sativa (Camelina) seed oil*:

packed with omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin E; has similar properties to flax seed oil but is much more stable. Camelina oil nourishes, improves skin elasticity, has inflammatory properties making it beneficial for psoriasis, eczema, etc and provides a protective coating for hair follicles.

Coco glucoside‡:

produced from non-GMO coconuts, it is able to produce a mild and cleansing action. Used at minute levels, this is approved and by organic certification bodies to use in organic cosmetic products.

Lactobacillus punica granatum (Pomegranate) fruit fermented extract:

packed with ellagic acid, anthocyanins (antioxidants) and the rare omega 5 essential fatty acid (EFA). Bacterial fermentation enhances its beneficial effects including a boost in restoration and repair of skin, a more even-out skin tone, inhibition of free radicals, protection against UV radiation and increased collagen synthesis, softens the appearance of fine lines and greater elasticity.

Glycyrrhiza glabra (Licorice) root extract*:

this is one of nature´s wonder botanicals thanks to its content of glycyrrhizin, glabridin and liquiritin. Licorice provides anti-inflammatory benefits that mimic cortisol, balance sebum production and inhibits the enzyme that triggers melanin production, making it a safer alternative to hydroquinone.

Leuconostoc/radish root ferment filtrate:

is an antimicrobial peptide isolated from radish roots that have been subjected to bacterial fermentation. This broad spectrum ECOCERT approved preservative is considered a safe and effective alternative to parabens.

Angelica keskei (Ashitaba) leaf/stem extract (Tomorrow´s Leaf):

a superfood containing eleven vitamins, thirteen minerals, chlorophyll, enzymes, carotene, germanium, saponins, proteins, plant fibers, glycosides, coumarins and a unique and rare class of flavonoids called chalcones. These are very unique polyphenols found in the leaf; they are bountiful in the bright-yellow sap of the plant. When used on the skin, it makes available two antioxidant chalcones (xanthoangelol and 4-hydroxyderricin), which are much more potent than those found in green tea, citrus fruits and grapes. These antioxidants ill not only ward off and neutralize free radicals, but will also allow skin to rapidly regenerate.

Calcium gluconate‡§:

like gluconolactone, is a preservative derived from gluconic acid (its calcium salt) and is an effective, non-toxic and non-sensitizing preservative and skin conditioning agent. It has no cosmetic restrictions and is permitted to use in organic cosmetics and personal care products formulations by organic certification bodies.

Gluconolactone‡§:

is a naturally-derived microorganism oxidation of glucose and is a vegan-friendly,non- GMOpreservative with broad spectrum protection that improves skin´s moisture content and has an exceptional low toxicity profile, long history of use, is non-sensitizing and non-irritating. This polyhydroxy acid also provides antioxidant, antibacterial, chelating, deodorizing, skin-conditioning and sun-protective benefits.

Coconut alcohol‡:

produced from fermentation of non-GMO coconuts, it is an effective extracting medium for herbal extracts taking out both water and oil soluble nutrients. It can also be used as a natural preservative where we add a minute level to match the pH of the skin.

Tocopherol‡¤:

commonly known as vitamin E; we use a mixture of tocopherols from non-GMO sunflower oil that provide superior antioxidant protection to oils and are excellent skin protectants.

Synthetic fluorphlogopite:

is a type of white synthetic mica that is smoothly coated in titanium dioxide, a naturally occurring white pigment, which then creates a silvery pearl essence that gives a glowing appearance on the skin.

Phytic acid‡:

found in rice, it helps enhance the freshness and stability of cosmetics and personal care products during their shelf life.

Iron oxides (CI77499):

also known as black iron oxide. Iron oxides are safe inorganic compounds made of iron and oxygen. They are widely used as colorants in cosmetic formulas.

Sodium hydroxide:

acts as a pH buffering agent in cosmetic and personal care products and is used at minute levels to regulate acidity to match the pH of the skin.

Sodium benzoate§:

is the sodium salt of benzoic acid; a preservative approved for use worldwide and is included on the European Union Cosmetics Directive “Positive List” (Europe has banned more than 1,200 ingredients due to safety concerns). It has also been approved by the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare in both rinse-off and leave-on applications. Japan, like Europe, abide by the most stringent criteria in the world concerning what ingredients can be used in personal care products to also keep the product itself free from harmful contamination. Europe´s conform level with the safety data associated with this permitted preservative is clearly reassuring.

Reviews

Every mud mask I’ve tried they’ve dried out my skin. Not this. Its creaminess doesn’t stop how deeply it cleans pores. My skin felt polished and refreshed afterward.

Nita Sharma, WA

Best mud mask I have ever used. I would like a larger jar so it can be used on the rest of my body. Since being in self-isolation I decided to throw out my old cosmetics and look for different ones that had better ingredients.

Creamy and doesn’t dry out. The mask has a brightening effect on my skin, probably due to how well the ingredients are detoxing it! Have just started using 3 times a week because I enjoy how it makes my skin feel and look. Please please make more masks!!

My favorite mud mask ever. It’s so creamy and dreamy I could use it every day.
